Murli Sharma  was born on Wednesday, 9 August 1972 (age 49 years; as of 2021) in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, and brought up in Mumbai. His zodiac sign is Leo. After completing his graduation, he did a Diploma in Acting at ‘Roshan Taneja Acting School’ in Mumbai. [2]

Murali Sharma is half- Marathi (from his father’s side) and half-Telugu (from his mother’s side).

Parents & Siblings

His father, Vrijbhushan Sharma, passed away in 2019 due to age-related ailments. His mother, Padma Sharma, died of cardiac arrest. He has two brothers.

Wife & Children

While shooting for the 2005 Hindi film ‘Apaharan,’ he met the Indian actress Ashwini Kalsekar who was divorced at that time from her first husband Nitesh Pandey. Murali and Ashwini became friends while shooting for the films, and soon, fell in love with each other. The couple tied the knot on 22 March 2009.

Television

After completing his training in acting, he started giving auditions for various TV serials and films. In 1997, he played the cameo role of Doctor Salim in the Hindi TV serial ‘Ghar Jamai.’ He then acted in various Hindi TV serials such as ‘Saaya’ (1998), ‘Rishtey’ (1998), ‘Laagi Tujhse Lagan’ (2009), and ‘Paltan Meri Shaan’ (2015).

In 2002, he debuted as an actor in the Hindi film ‘Dil Vil Pyar Vyar.’ He came into the limelight with the Hindi film ‘Maqbool’ (2003) in which he played the role of Devsare. His role as Khan in the popular Hindi film ‘Main Hoon Na’ (2004) was well appreciated by the audience and critics.

He then acted in a few other Hindi films such as ‘Masti’ (2004), ‘Mangal Pandey: The Rising’ (2005), ‘Apaharan’ (2005), and ‘Dhamaal’ (2007). In 2007, he made his Telugu debut with the film ‘Athidhi’ in which he played the role of Qaiser/Ajay Sastry. He has acted in various Telugu films such as ‘Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum’ (2012), ‘Yevadu’ (2014), ‘Dwaraka’ (2017), and ‘Awe’ (2018).

Some of his Hindi films in which he has played prominent roles are ‘Golmaal Returns’ (2008), ‘Dabangg’ (2010), ‘Singham’ (2011), ‘Badlapur’ (2015), and ‘Major’ (2021). In 2012, he made his debut in the Marathi films with ‘Ajintha’ in which he played the role of Mukhiya.

Some of his other Marathi films are ‘Vijay Aso’ (2013), ‘Poshter Boyz’ (2014), ‘Guru’ (2016), and ‘Ghantaa’ (2016). As of November 2021, he has acted in only one Malayalam film ‘Karma Yodha’ in which the name of his character was Khais Khanna.

Facts/Trivia

  • While he was in school and college, he used to participate in various stage plays. He used to bunk classes to watch the films of the Indian actors Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor.
  • In an interview, he shared his experience of working in theatres. He said,

    Theatre is the best medium to connect with the audience. I have been blessed with an auto mode function that starts working the moment the role is being explained to me and this guides me in performing. One thing I ensure is the reading of scene with all the actors at least three times before shooting, to ensure that we are on the same page.”

  • In an interview, while talking about his struggling days in the entertainment industry, Murali said,

    Well, there weren’t any good acting opportunities coming my way and I needed to earn my living. Not that it was easy getting jobs as an assistant director either. I approached quite a few directors like Mahesh Bhatt, Rahul Rawail and Vidhu Vinod Chopra but met with little luck. I changed jobs every week. Later, I worked as an assistant to K   avita Chaudhary, but even that didn’t work out.”

  • During an interview, he shared his fitness routine. He said,

    I walk for an hour each day, now my walk extends to an hour and 45 minutes because people stop me on the way. They don’t just tell me that they liked the film or my performance, they discuss specific scenes.”

  • He is a foodie and loves cooking food. In an interview, he shared his love for cooking. He said,

    Oh… I love to cook. And I think my passion to cook comes from my passion to eat. Cooking is also very relaxing and a great stress buster for me. When there is no shoot, I and Ashwini both end up cooking most of the time. It’s fun.”
